Computers Suck!
Hey, everybody...my computer has been pissing me off lately...something's wrong with it...its slow and doesnt upload or download like it used to...hence only two pics for this post...i actually think (and hope) its the internet connection...anyways, since im so crabby because of my computer, this will be a short post with just my top five obsessions...on thursday ill write a good post...quickly, im doing well here...i had a good weekend...we went to a dance-off showdown at the local college on friday...that was pretty fun to see...it made me want to do a dance...dana and i couldve blown those kids outta the water with our mad dance skills...and then saturday was the big playoff football game between the tafuna warriors and the leone lions...we lost...but it was a very exciting game...ill tell you guys about it later...then on saturday night we went out with some friends and sunday was just a chillaxin day...i lesson planned, called friends, and read my book...and took a walk...oh, and the top pic is just a boring one from our hike...the picture below is one of those famous lizards that live on the island...this one looks cute but dont let them fool you...they're dastardly and slippery and quick...and evil... luckily (knock on wood), we've only seen one baby one in our house...we murdered it with raid...with no remorse...we dont wanna be livin wit the lizards again...
My Top Five Obsessions of the Week:
5. Dan Savage = ive now read two of his thought provoking and controversial books ("The Kid" and "The Commitment") on gay adoption and gay marriage, and I loved both of them...theyre both political and satirical yet emotional and personal...and extremely provocative...his book on gay marriage is not only about the inequality of marriage -- and, really, love for that matter -- in America (heck, dont be surprised if you see me moving to Montreal one of these days), its also about the sometimes absurd and sometimes wonderful institution of marriage...it made me think about marriage in a whole new insightful light...and i know some people who need to read this book (ahem, shawn, cough!) ...sure, some of his writing is disturbingly sexual...just visit his "savage love" column... http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/SavageLove ...but he still is a fighter for gay (human) rights in a country thats thinking about taking away rights for gays (humans) permanetly in their constitution...thats kinda scary...and dan savage comforts me, a bit :-)
4. Yul from Survivor = first of all, dont tell me that he got kicked off of survivor last week...i didnt watch the episode yet...so if he did, ill be devastated and depressed...and ill cry like a school girl...i think this guy is the hottest thing since sliced bread...i think he might be my future husband...he's smart and eloquent...and beautiful...as i once told suzy...id bind my feet for him any day...id even poke my eyes out with chop sticks for him...oh, damn it...those are asian stereotypes arent they?...anyways, my dream is to fall in love with the sexy yul and marry him in canada... ;-) http://www.canmag.com/images/front/lap/yul.jpg
3. The Jim and Pam Romance on The Office = okay, i just got into this show (The Office) and ive only watched up to half of the second season...first of all, i think the show is hilariously brilliant, and steve carell is genius in the show...actually all the actors are...theyre so real and regular and outrageous, and fricken pee-in-your-pants funny...but the heart of the show is the attraction between jim and pam...their friendship and budding love is so sweet and authentic and wonderful it makes me long for the charmingly romantic days of ross and rachel on Friends...but the affection and tenderness and realness of jim and pam's relationship is ten times better...and it helps that i think jim is kinda cute, too... http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/060209/060209_TVcouples_vmed_3p.hmedium.jpg
2. The Dark Knight = as you all may know (or maybe not), i am obsessed with the movie batman begins...i love that movie and every time i watch it i fall in love with it all over again...obviously, im stoked for the sequel, The Dark Knight, to come out...not only will it of course continue the story of the only human superhero to build his own empire and power (afterall, hes not from a different planet and he wasnt exposed to toxic chemicals and he wasnt bit by a magical spider), but it will also have heath ledger as joker (yes, enis del mar...the gay cowboy!)...with my student sam using batman as his inspiration, it only makes my excitement for the next movie grow even more...i know i sound like a nerdy comic book freak...but i dont care...im so gonna be first in line for this flick... http://www.rottentomatoes.com/news/comments/?entryid=374440
1. Monster House = i think ive told you guys already that this is my favorite movie of the year...so far...but in the spirit of halloween and it being on video, im gonna confess my obsession with it again...this is such a fun adventure for the whole family...its scary and imaginative, and the characters are hilarious and the animation is alive with action...just like the spooky house...so, curl up on the couch on a cool autumn night and pop in this delightful treat about the mysteries and fears of childhood...and laugh till soda sprays from your nose...(ahem, gabe/charlie/chase, cough!)... http://www.ew.com/ew/article/commentary/0,6115,1547926_2_0_,00.html

the office!! hasn't that been one of those shows that youve made fun of me for watching? it's a big fav of mine. it actually started by the british version and the americans copied it - just like coupling and friends. Mike chianese would say that the british version is a thousand times better, but i love the american. and yes. its all about the jim and pam love. and their expressions are priceless!
also - if you're voting next week and are pro gay marriage or just not wanting to add the amendment to the constitution to ban it - then you want to vote NO on tuesday. Just thought I'd throw that in.
