A Tearjerker and a Threat...
Hey, y'all...its time for another post...i promised you guys tuesday, and i will be keeping that promise...though none of you left me any messages in the last post...so im gonna getcha all back...and ill tell you how im gonna do that in a second...anyways, this should be a pretty short post...i dont have that much to say today...so...yeah...this picture above is what was outside my classroom door today at tafuna high school...in fact, this is probably what i see every morning...those students were late to school...so they were made to do push ups in the field...they were seriously doing push ups for like 45 minutes today!...and it was hella hot out there...like humid, 95 degrees hot!...i reckon i felt kinda bad for them...but then i realized that theyre late, irresponsible teenagers...and they deserve it, dog-nabbit!...i always laugh when i see the kids get punished with physical labor (sometimes they have to march across the field like a hundred times, and sometimes they have to do the crab walk across the field a hundred times, and sometimes they have to walk like monkeys across the field a hundred times...its great entertainment!),..this is obviously so different than the states...can you imagine if this happened at a school in wisconsin?...the parents would be outraged...im not quite sure if the samoan way of punishment is any better than the american way (which is what?...a letter from the students saying theyre sorry?), but i do know that theyre a lot different...that man in the yellow lava lava is our vice princible...mr. samoa samoa...he used to be that NFL football player...he's the most feared man on campus...the kids were just lucky that he cant really beat them anymore...too many parents complained...slowly but surely this island will become more and more like the states...and itll be interesting how it changes in the next couple years, and how the kids will behave...what do you guys think?...is a hundred push ups in the blazing heat a fair, constructive consequence for tardy teenagers?...
well, ive just begun teaching mark twain's the adventures of huckleberry finn...first of all, let me just tell you how much i love this book...i read it in college and it was one of the most memorable and most awe-inspiring experiences ive had with a book ever...i dont really know why...maybe its just because i think its written beautifully and brilliantly...or maybe huck finn's imaginativeness and adventurousness reminds me of me when i was a boy...or maybe i just felt so proud of myself for finishing this complex, sometimes difficult-to-read, classic novel...either way, its one of my most favorite books...anyways, i wont go into a long sermon about how im teaching the novel, but i will tell you a hilarious thing that happened today during class...well, i was reading the book to the class...the kids actually like when i read cause i get all into it and can do all the characters' voices and can read it clearly...i know, ive become that nerdy ass english teacher...i cant stop it from happening...so, im reading this book for all my classes throughout the day...and its hot out, by the way...eventually, my lips began to get tired and i sometimes would trip up over some of the words...well, i messed up on a word alright...and the kids found it to be laugh-out-loud hilarious...i accidently said "fuck finn"...it was sooo embarassing...they are so gonna remember that for the rest of their lives...i totally didnt mean to do it...i was just reading fast and the letters began to jumble up in my brain...i laughed it off, too...it was pretty funny...but now the kids will never look at HUCK finn the same again...and i thought i was doin such a excellent job of reading it for them...oh, well...whatcha gonna do?...also, check out this website of mark twain quotes...theyre so good...

5. Survivor = i know, its not really at the top of my list...even though i think the past couple seasons were kinda humdrum, i still get excited to watch it and i still find myself surprised by the game, too...oh, and it also keeps me connected to my family...so, i gotta have it on the list...
4. Ugly Betty = suzy made fun of me for loving this simplistic, colorful, wacky little weekly romantic comedy, but i dont care...its sweet and funny...suzy's just cynical...she doesnt believe in happily ever afters! ;-)
3. The Office = consistently hilarious...sitcoms dont usually make me laugh, but like seinfeld, this one makes me laugh so hard milk sprays outta my nose...it always seems to make me wanna tell the whole world how funny and real this show is...go phylliss!...i love ya, baby!...
2. Heroes = though its been lacking the past few episodes, this is still one helluva cool sci-fi action show...with awesome superheroes and righteous super powers...its like nothing else on television...emotional AND thrilling...
1. Top Chef = what can i say that i havent already?...i love this show...sure, the winner is not who i wanted to win, but that doesnt matter...the food does!...and these food challenges were tight, man...like paprika and saffron!...yumsters...
(Notice: i did not include greys anatomy or desperate housewives...though i like both shows - desperate housewives has gotten so much better this season and greys anatomy still tugs at my heart strings every now and then - i dont really get that excited to see them anymore...i guess i like new shows...theyre more interesting...)
the following are some pics of the new building we'll be in soon at tafuna...theyre still finishing up the construction...but observe how wonderful they look!...ill actually have windows!...and not a tin roof!...and i might even have air conditioning!...oh my lordy!...im having fantasies already...ill be back in the 20th century!...well, sort of...these new classrooms are a samoan teacher's wet dream!...
so i dont really wanna make you guys sad or anything, but last night, after i finished all of my work and read my book and watched a tv show, i tried to go to sleep...but i couldnt fall asleep...i suddenly, outta nowhere, got really homesick...and it hit me like a ton of bricks...i just got that dreadfully heavy feeling in my stomach, and i just wanted to go home and see all of you...i tossed and turned for an hour, trying not to cry or anything...i was just so sad...sorry to be such a debbie downer...but i just want you guys to know that even though im keeping myself busy here with tons of stuff, im always thinking of y'all...i finally did fall asleep, but i hope that homesickness doesnt come back for a while...cause that was rough...like a deep wave of sorrow and regret drowning me...i hate you guys! :-)
and since i wanna make you as depressed as me, im gonna leave you this splendidly melancholy clip of dolly parton singing "me and little andy"...if you ever need a nice cry, watch this!...and after youre done enjoying the luminosity of dolly, then go visit her dollywood site...the one place no one will go with me to!...ahem, suzy!...(have i put this clip up before?...all the posts are melding together)

for a bunch of kids to find your blooper laugh out loud means they were listening!
DOLLY STILL SCARES ME-WHO WOULD WANT TO GOT TO DOLLYWOOD,EXCEPT YOU! I THINK IT IS FINE THAT THE KIDS HAVE TO DO EXERCISES FOR PUNISHMENT-ITS BETTER THAN A DETENTION OR SATURDAY WHERE YOU JUST WASTE YOUR TIME AND YOUR PARENTS ARE ALSO PUNISHED BY HAVING TO GET YOU THERE AND BACK
i remember a certain gym teacher yelling "shenkenberg - run the backstops!" day in and day out. (for me not paying attention or talking when i wasn't supposed to, but we all know it was always someone else getting me in trouble, not me!) And i can say that running the backstops was always always hell. torturous heart pounding gasping for that last breath hell, but it was usually better then making a fool of myself in some other sport i was unable to play in a respectable manor.
